Five of our patients in the Forest Ward at Monash Children’s Hospital have overcome serious intestinal failure in time to celebrate Christmas!

Ryker, Daisy, River, Grace and Koah have spent between four and eight months at Monash Children’s after undergoing major surgery to remove part of their bowels.

The five babies and their parents have come together to form a strong bond and support each other throughout the difficult road to recovery.

Grace was the first to go home last week after spending 134 days in hospital, and Koah will be going home in time for Christmas after being here for more than 150 days. River is also expected to leave soon after spending more than 120 days in hospital.

Daisy and Ryker will remain in hospital until the New Year, but are excited to spend Christmas with their second family at Monash Children’s Hospital.

Shona Williamson, Nurse Unit Manager at Ward 3A Forest and her team have provided the babies and their parents with incredible support throughout their journey at Monash Children’s Hospital, and have transformed the ward into a Disney wonderland to celebrate the festive season!
