Exercise Physiology in the community
Exercise Physiologists are university qualified Allied Health Professionals who specialise in the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for the prevention and management of injuries.
The exercise physiologist working with children will design an exercise program that will cater to your child’s needs taking into account their age, growth and development. Part of their role is injury prevention.
Exercise Physiologists work in a variety of settings clinics, kindergartens, schools and other outreach settings. Some of the services that Exercise Physiologists are able to offer at Monash Children’s Hospital include:
- Comprehensive fitness assessment
- Strength and conditioning training
- Conditioning
- Community based gym program design
- Facilitate transition in to ongoing programs in the community
- Long term lifestyle management and preventive education
- Group activities e.g. fitness, balance, walking, running re-education group
- Sport/recreational skill acquisition retraining

Referrals to community exercise physiology are accepted from any source, including family.

Eligibility criteria
Inclusion:
- Lives / works / studies or child attends pre-school or child-care in the City of Greater Dandenong, City Of Casey, Shire of Cardinia
- OR cannot access local services due to poor transport accessibility
- OR service is not provided by local community health service
Exclusion:
- Clients on waitlist, attending OR previously attended Early Childhood Intervention Programs or Specialist Schools cannot be seen as they should be eligible to receive therapy support at these settings
- Clients with a developmental diagnosis i.e. Cerebral Palsy, Asperger’s, Autism, global developmental delay
