New MCH opens its doors to the community

The opportunity to view the inside of the new Monash Children’s Hospital drew thousands of visitors to the Community Open Day on Sunday 2 April.

The feedback from visitors was overwhelmingly positive. Visitors were delighted with design of the new hospital and that such an outstanding facility was now part of their local community.

Chief Executive Andrew Stripp said for many families who have been patients at the current Monash Children’s, the day was particularly meaningful.

“The care and attention to patient’s needs in the new design is very evident – and for many of our regular Monash Children’s Hospital families finally seeing it up close was quite an emotional experience” Mr Stripp said.

Families from the local community, local residents, staff and their families enjoyed the chance to take a self-guided tour of the highlights of the hospital including the diagnostic imaging room, patient rooms, the outdoor therapeutic play area and pet park.

The rain held off and visitors enjoyed the many activities provided including an animal farm, roving entertainers, music and dancing on the stage, face painting and more. There was even a visit from the Easter bunny!
