Luna developed an infantile haemangioma in the first few days of life that grew rapidly; it involved her left eyelid and within 4 weeks her eyelid had completely closed, affecting her vision. If not treated promptly, the haemangioma would have caused permanent vision impairment.
She was treated with Propanolol for a year and the haemangioma regressed almost completely.
Her vision is now fine.

Ayla’s parents comments:
- “Our little girl developed this huge birthmark bump on her head just 3 weeks after birth (later known as hemangioma) and it kept growing bigger by day.”
- “My wife and I were really worried as it started ulcerating so we went to see Dr Maurizio Pacilli as part of the Vascular Anomaly MDT at Monash Children’s Hospital”.
- “The team was absolutely fantastic giving us reassurance and options for treatments. They really put our minds at ease”.
- “After a year of our daughter taking Propranolol, her hemangioma has substantially reduced to the point you can’t even notice it when her hair covers it (before this was not possible as the bump was so big it would poke out of the hair like a horn).”
- “She had no real side effects to speak of during the treatment and we feel very happy with how it turned out and can not thank the Vascular Anomaly MDT enough.”
