Patients and families
Patients and families set-up
To set-up and dial into your Telehealth appointment, follow the steps below:
- Read through the setup guide (see below) to prepare for your appointment
- Conduct a test call (see instructions below) to ensure your connection and equipment are in working order
- Click the ‘Join my Telehealth appointment’ button
- Select your clinic from the drop-down menu and follow the prompts
If you’re unsure which clinic your appointment is with, check your email appointment letter or contact:

Making a test call
It’s a good idea to make a test call prior to your Telehealth consultation, to ensure everything is in working order before the actual appointment with your Monash Children’s Hospital specialist.
To conduct a test call, click the ‘Test call’ button above and follow the instructions.
Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing technical issues when trying to connect to a video call with healthdirect, please try restarting your device (turning it off and on again). We find this often solves the problem.

Further assistance, rescheduling and cancellations
If you require further assistance, or need to reschedule or cancel your Telehealth appointment, please contact us at the relevant clinic for the following. You will need your child’s name and date of birth and or UR number. Please specify the appointment was via video appointment.

If you are in the video call and you are unable to join, we will attempt to call you on the phone number you provided when you started the video call.

To set-up and dial into your Telehealth appointment, follow the steps below:
- If you haven’t participated in a Telehealth appointment recently, please conduct a test call (see instructions below) to ensure your connection and equipment are in working order
- Log into your Health Direct account via the staff login button above. Please note this is different to your Monash Health staff login.
- Select the appropriate waiting area and follow the prompts.
Selecting the correct browser
Always use Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge as your browser for video consulting via Telehealth.
You can update your browser from chrome://settings/help, or download new at www.google.com/chrome
Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing technical issues when trying to connect to a video call with healthdirect, please try restarting your device (turning it off and on again). We find this often solves the problem. Otherwise, please follow these troubleshooting guidelines for help.

Using Webex to consult with more than five participants
Healthdirect video calls can only support up to five participants.
If you are hosting a video consult with more than five participants, use your Monash Health “Webex” account to schedule a meeting and send it via email to your participants. Cisco Webex should be embedded on your outlook email and installed on your computer.

If you don’t have Cisco Webex on your Outlook email or on your computer, contact Monash Health IT Services on ext. #47255 or log a call.

MBS eligibility
Is the patient eligible for Telehealth through MBS? Remoteness Area 2 through to Remoteness Area 5 are eligible for MBS billing (RA1-RA5).
To find out, enter the patient address into the ‘Enter a location’ field on this page.
