Supporting Kids with Nephrotic Syndrome

The Monash Children’s Hospital Nephrology Department provides care for children with complex nephrological disorders including immune based kidney disease nephrotic syndrome.

Childhood nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disease which is poorly understood and difficult to control. Children present with significant body swelling requiring initial hospitalisation. The Monash Children’s Hospital nephrology department managed 67 patients with nephrotic syndrome in 2015. Many of these patients take long term immunosuppressive therapy and around 10% of nephrotic patients require complicated therapies with eventual progression to dialysis and transplantation.
